Crwst have teamed up with Greenspark to offset our carbon footprint through supporting projects in developing countries that are making a difference to communities and the environment.
So, what are we doing?
1 – Planting a tree for every £20 spent on our online shop.
2 – Offsetting the carbon footprint of all our full time staff.
TREE PLANTING WITH CRWST
THE EDEN REFORESTATION PROJECTS
The Eden Projects fight extreme poverty through tree planting. Their projects are run in Madagascar, Haiti, Nepal, Indonesia, Mozambique, Kenya, Nicaragua, and Honduras. The Eden Projects are designed to restore native ecosystems while providing a livelihood for people living in extreme poverty throughout the world. Crwst will contributing towards the project by planting a tree for every £20 spent on our online shop!
CARBON OFFSETTING
THE CHACAYES HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY PROJECT, CHILE (UN PROJECT 6848)
The energy sector accounts for nearly 60% of total greenhouse gas emissions. The Chacayes run-of-river hydroelectric project is based in the Cachapoal Valley of Chile. The wine-producing region takes its name from the Cachapoal River, which propels the project’s hydro turbines to create clean electricity, thus helping to transition the nation to clean, renewable energy. By supporting this project through donations, we will be able to offset the carbon footprint of our staff as well as support the economic development of the region.
Improved Cook Stoves in Malawi (UN Project 9933)
The World Health Organisation estimates that over 3 billion people in low- and middle-income countries rely on energy-inefficient solid fuels such as wood, charcoal, coal, animal dung, and crop wastes. This project helps transition rural households in Malawi from traditional three-stone cooking fires to energy-efficient cookstoves or “changu changu motos”. Improved Cookstoves fight deforestation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is estimated that switching to a Changu Changu Moto saves 2.5 tonnes of carbon a year per cookstove. By supporting this project, we will be able to offset the carbon footprint of our staff.
